2010-2011 Research Awards

Concept of Award:
The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding research in BC that helps to improve our
understanding of the origins and treatments of dizziness and vestibular disorders.
Award:
$750 will be awarded each year to one Trainee and one Early Investigator for their involvement in highly
innovative and original research projects on dizziness and vestibular disorders in BC.
Eligibility:
All applicants must be residents of BC.
Trainee Award:
All applicants must be actively engaged in research within an undergraduate, graduate (Masters,
PhD), or Medical School program in BC.
Early Investigator Award:
All applicants must be experienced health professionals (clinicians, residents) or post-doctoral
researchers actively engaged in research within an institution (hospital or university) in BC.
Application Requirements:
Submissions are limited to one per candidate per year.
Projects should have been completed within the past 2 years (April 2009 to April 2011).
In the case of joint authorship, only one author may be eligible for either award.
Upon accepting the award, the applicant will be
required
to make a short 20-minute presentation of their research to a public meeting of the BC Balance
and Dizziness Disorders Society members at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, BC. The presentation will take
place on Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 between 4:30 and 6:00 pm. Following the presentation you will answer
questions from the audience. The abstracts and a lay summary of the successful research projects will also be
published in the quarterly newsletter of the BC Balance and Dizziness Disorders Society.

All applications must be received no later than Friday, April 1st, 2011 to be considered eligible for
the award. Awards will be reviewed by members of the scientific advisory board and elected board members of
BC Balance and Dizziness Disorders Society. The award winners will be notified by no later than Friday, April
15th, 2011.
